On November 10th, Hotel Pullman Ibirapuera, in São Paulo, was the setting for the 1st Latin American Point of Care Meeting. With a full auditorium, 20 speakers from not only Brazil, but also Argentina, Colombia, Mexico and the United States, attended the event. Supported by Alere, a diagnostic company, the event is the initiative of three clinical pathologists – Dr. Paula Távora, a member of the Remote Laboratory Tests Committee of the Brazilian Society of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (SBCP/ML) and chair of the Council of Former Presidents of SBCPC/ ML; Dr. Octávio Fernandes, vice president of DASA, a company that provides Diagnostic Medicine services; and Dr. Carlos Ballarati, member of SBPC/ML, and founding partner of Consulta do Bem, a startup designated to promote online medical scheduling and affordable consultations.
Diagnostic tests using remote devices, better known as Point of Care, allow the patient to have decisions made rapidly at the emergency units, helping health professionals better conduct the clinical decision.
